Physical at Bootcamp

Hey I was just wondering what the physical is like at bootcamp during processing days to become fit for duty. Is it similar to the one you had to do at MEPS? Any information would be appreciated.

It's similar but more indepth. Plus shots and all that fun stuff.

When you say more in depth, what exactly do you mean? I am okay with shots and needles really do not bother me much. I just want to gather as much information as possible before I leave in a few months!

I'm also wondering about this.
Do they make you spread your cheeks like at MEPS?

I don't recall another actual physical portion during P-Days. If you're Aircrew or AC, you'll get a flight physical about halfway through... that's hands-on.

MEPS is all about seeing if you are able to join the Navy... RTC medical is all about figuring out what you need while in Great Lakes: they draw more blood to test for allergies, immunizations, medical conditions like anemia, etc... they check your vision again to issue you glasses (if needed), they give you shots to make sure you don't get sicker than necessary from all the illnesses that come in with new recruits... and they give you a dental exam to see what work you need to have scheduled while up there (If any is needed).

How fast do you get new glasses? I'm actually looking forward to them, the new glasses don't look bad! I have been purposely holding out to buy new glasses since RTC is around the corner lol

I too am waiting until I go to RTC to get new glasses! Which brings up a question. Since we can't wear contacts during basic, and glasses are issued to us, what should I wear on the way there? My old glasses or my contacts?

Wear your old glasses.
It can take a couple weeks.

It can take a couple days, to a couple weeks... they'll let you wear your personal glasses until you get Navy glasses... but they won't let you wear contacts.

I haven't worn glasses or contacts since I got LASIK in 2007, but I remember what it was like to wear contacts for a long day... I'd recommend sticking to glasses since you're gonna be tired, and they'd make you toss your contacts anyway.

What if I only wear contacts, don't have glasses and I'm pretty much blind without them? My recruiter said I can still wear my contacts if I bring a case and a small bottle of solution with me.

Can't say I've ever heard of anyone ever being allowed to wear their contacts in initial training.

You can get a pair of glasses online for under $15.

I was just reading this thread earlier from this future sailor who had the same issue and they said he was allowed to wear contacts and get sent to the eye doctor very early:
http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2580

But then this thread says you'll basically be blind if you don't bring some glasses: http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=676

But since I have a month before I ship out, I'm probably going to order some cheap glasses anyway...

I hate my poor eyesight T____T
