sea tour?

When you go on sea tour are they just on the ship? Or would it be every move over seas as a family?

Define "they". I kinda know what you're asking but not quite lol A sea tour is pretty much a deployment for the Navy.

A sea tour is a period during which you're assigned to a sea duty station. A deployment's a long period of time actually ON the ocean. Don't confuse the poor woman by mixing terms...

Anytime you are in sea duty, you can be sent on deployment. On a shore duty you will be staying behind.

Shore doesn't necessarily mean you'll be on shore the entire time either, especially for jobs like HM.

Sorry meant they as in the sailors. lol I'm not a sailor so you will see me type they a lot. I'm getting a lot of info my boyfriend. I tried to get him to join the site but for some reason he won't. It's like instead of soaking up all of the info he can until he ships out to basic he wants life to slap him in the face. I can't understand that logic. I know when I was trying to go into the Air Force I was reading everything I could (until I went to the recruiter and found out Type 1 diabetes is an automatic disqualifier) lol. What I learn here I feed it to him little by little. Just want him to be prepared.

Ok I gotcha now! So once we're married if we get stationed to a sea duty station we both have go? And then there's a possibility of him going on depolyment (on the ocean) while there as well. During that time of course I would just be left at the sea duty station?

Yes. His duty station is where he will live for 3-5 years (the length depends on his job). Spouses/significant others usually move there too, unless they are in school or something like that.
During that time, he will probably deploy at least once (every other year is "typical"). Some spouses stay at their duty station during deployment. Some will go back home and live with their family. It's really up to you.

Remember, he's getting stationed places, not you. You don't even have to follow him around, if that's how your relationship works (though obviously most people do). And yes, you stay ashore while he goes on deployment, just like any other service.

One more item to confuse you even more.. Depending on his rate, he could also go to an OCONUS location (like GTMO), and be considered on a "sea" tour.... But he's not attached to a ship, and doesn't deploy.. However, most places like that, it's much harder for the service member to get their family to those locations. There are a lot of restrictions...

lol yeah I understand what you are saying. Think it would be pretty hard on a marriage if a spouse didn't go. As long as I'm allowed I think I would.

Yeah that's COMPLETELY above my head. I'm still learning a lot of the military stuff.

Ok.. To put it plainly: certain overseas locations are considered sea duty even though they are not attached to a ship. I currently live in Guantanamo Bay (GTMO), Cuba. We are there for Tim's shore duty, but several of our friends are there on sea duty.

Ok thank you I understand now. I wonder if there are certain locations where rates go there more. Like my boyfriend is going into Advance Electrionics. If he get ET or FC is there places they prefer them to be? Or pretty much fair game acrossed the board?
