Do any MA's know how and when in your career you get selected to attend a "C" such as a (MWD) dog handler? Also, What "C" schools you can go to immediately after "A" school? How about Protective services specialist, Military Working Dog (MWD), Military Police Investigator (MPI), Protective Boat Coxswain? Does experience and education outside of the navy have any weight when being selected for "C" school? |

I'm bumping this because I am going to push everything I have towards MWD. The best advice my recruiter could give was "dont screw up and get top of your class" Well thanks but that was already my plan |

Hi there. Two ways to get MWD that I know of. First is "A" school - rare, very selective. (Disclaimer, I went in 2007). They'll ask if people want to interview for K9. One or two (more likely none) will be selected to stay at lackland and attend K9 after A school graduation. Do not get pissed off if you don't get K9 out of A school At your first command, if there is a kennel, get your quals ASAP and (like your recruiter said) be a top sailor. Once you're all qualied up visit the kennel and try to get in to work on your Kennel Support PQS. Basically you work for K9 in your off time, if they like you and want to keep you around they may send you to K9 with the deal that you come back to that command as K9 afterwards. I saw quite a few sailors pick up a leash this way. Downside to that is that it's clearly a subjective process and some kennels are better than others. I never pursued K9 so this is all indirect information. |

Other "C" schools come with orders most of the time. For example if you pick (and are selected) for orders that require a certain NEC, you'll stop at that school in between duty stations. Other commands will send you to schools from the command if you're available and there's a benefit to the command. Does that help? -MA1 |

MA1, Shoot an email to Guppy from your .mil account and get verified as active duty please! It helps keep track of who's who on the site. I'll bump the thread into the recent threads on the main page. Thanks! V/r CTT1 |
