You can have a cell phone while on base, but not on duty (actually on watch or at muster) or in school. That goes for all electronics, including flash drives and such. Im not to sure on the dependents, I know that when we were getting ready to march out after the Lib brief that friday when we got to the barracks they were asking who had dependents that were going to move up and told them to get in contact with a certain person when they had a chance over the weekend or on monday. One guy in my class had his family up here by the second week of class, so about three weeks but there have been a few people that it only took a week or so. It all depends on how soon you talk to the Live-Ashore person and can have your family move.

Also, if you or your spouse have any questions about becoming a live ashore, feel free to message me. I am currently living in Great Lakes, and will be transferring to Dahlgren in October.
