Default Something You May be Asked in Boot

For you DEPers, if you are between 5'10" and 6'2" and a waist no bigger than 30 inches, and have lots of military bearing..you MAY be asked to join the HONOR GUARD. This is a great honor if you are asked for this, it shows you really have your act together and made an impression on someone! It WOULD take you away from your rating while you are in the Honor Guard, but it is my understanding you can go back to it after your tour in the Guard. The Honor Guard is comprised of ALL Military Branches, and you would be stationed in Washington DC. Their training is hard and the drills must be precise! If you are fortunate to be asked this..think hard on your decision and dont take it lightly. Many do not know what this intails before they are asked, so here is a link to a site that gives a much better explanation. Knowledge is power, and if you know what it is and what is expected, you can make a better decision. My Navy son was asked while in boot camp, but turned it down, and he is happy with his choice, now my other son that is in the Army has been asked..he has excepted this challenge
Here is a brief bit of the page, please go and read the rest!

The U.S. Armed Forces Honor Guard
Each year the Armed Forces Honor Guard from Washington, D.C., performs more than 300 ceremonies in the nation's capital, throughout the United States and around the world.
These men and women maintain an impeccable appearance, high moral standards and strict military order and discipline, while performing in front of the world's most important leaders.

There are approximately 700 members in the Armed Forces Honor Guards stationed in the D.C. area. A unique office called Ceremonies and Special Events, which comes under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington at Fort Lesley J. McNair, coordinates all joint-service activities.
As the official ceremonial units for their respective services, the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard Honor Guards routinely participate in ceremonies at the Pentagon, the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery, national memorials and throughout the Washington area.
