Not just an understanding of that ratings you would be willing to sign for... but an understanding of what ratings you would not want. Assume the liaison will paint any rating in the best light possible... it's good to research as many jobs as you can so you know the reality of what they do and whether you'd be willing to do them.

Also, figure out for yourself whether it's more important to be a Sailor or to have such-and-such job.
