My son was asking about it and I couldn't tell him what they are called today. My MOS as I forget what the Navy calls it now was 7841. Anyway he is thinking of joining and wanted to do what I used to. This is my first question so I hope I've got the right spot.
Today's ASW AW's are flying the P-8. A few VP squadrons still have P-3's in the inventory, but they are being phased out for the newer P-8's.

The VP folks flying them still use pretty much the same titles (SS2, SS3, TACCO, etc).

If your son wants to do that same job, he needs to get into the AW rating and go AWO after NACCS. From there he will be assigned to a VP squadron and will be flying the P-8.
