Yea, they say it's only for band\marching but you have to remember the Staff division who are picked based off military bearing and look.

I'm not very athletic looking, I wasn't a great swimmer, and I'm a horrible runner but I guess I had great military bearing. If you get into a 900 division I think you'll have a better time at bootcamp, it's a unique experience.

Life in 900's is unique thats for sure. I was glad I was in one, but in the end the goal is graduate boot camp. Also, like I said, I don't remember what height it is they look for for state flags, but everyone must be approximately the same height. Notice in the picture above, they all appear the same height white hats and all.

I was 900 division for band. There were some awesome things about it.. I don't know about being worked harder, I think we got worked less. We also didn't have to do service week. I don't know about know but back then service week everyone had to work serving food and being a dishwasher and stuff. We got to be in band and practice. We would do performances for other graduating divisions as well.

For me, my first day/night there during check in, they asked if anyone was in band, choir, flags, rotc, etc.. that is your queue to speak up and they will put you in a 900 division.

One bad thing about 900 is that you definitely are more visible and other divisions typically don't like you. You do have to stay at least a week later than everyone else to make up classes that you missed, but you also get to wear your belt and canteen for a week, when everyone else only gets to during battle stations (if I remember right)

I got singled out in boot camp, big time.. because my marching was awesome. I had to march in front of about 300 booters to show them "perfect marching". They said if you practice and pay attention you could march like that as well. I just laughed to myself and thought no, that will never happen. Sure I did band, but that wasn't why I marched good. I marched with the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle corps for 4 years before joining the Navy.

Not when it comes to marching. If you knew drum corps, you would know BD and you would understand.
